The Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) has been advised by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to ensure that its members carry out their mandates in accordance with the law.
The Commission’s deputy CEO, Abdi Mohamud, said in a statement that they had received allegations that MPs were using their own or family properties as offices while drawing rent allowance from PSC funds.
He also stated that there were allegations of nepotism among the members.
“We also advise you to bring to the attention of MPs the need to follow conflict of interest legislation and maintain impartiality in the recruitment of County/Constituency office management staff,” said Mohamud.
Mohamud stated that after receiving the allegations, the integrity body conducted investigations and discovered that the PSC did not perform with utmost care in determining the ownership status of the offices occupied by the members.
He also stated that the commission determined that the PSC relied on lease agreement documents provided by members or Constituency/Senate office managers for rent reimbursement.
