The two opposing political parties have planned retreats for their legislators to share out parliamentary leadership positions.
Mr Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party is holding a two-day retreat this weekend at Stoni Athi Resort in Machakos County to share leadership positions in the National Assembly and Senate as the 13th Parliament prepares for business following the August 9 elections.
Kenya Kwanza Alliance MPs from President William Ruto’s party will be in Naivasha on Friday and Saturday.
The meetings take place in the midst of intense lobbying for leadership positions in both Houses and membership in the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
Nominated MP John Mbadi earlier stated unequivocally that he will seek the leadership of the National Assembly, with MPs Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Junet Mohamed (Suna East) also expressing interest in the position.
He was first elected as Suba MP in 2007, before the name was changed to Suba South.
Mr Mbadi, an accountant, was the minority leader in the 12th Parliament.
Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu (Wiper) is set to deputize Mr Mbadi, with the Jubilee and Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K) vying for the whip and deputy whip positions.
