Kenyan artiste Moses Tarus Omondi, popularly known as Mr Seed, has opened up about his deep personal connection to the late Raila Odinga, recalling how the former Prime Minister once changed his life in an unexpected way.
Speaking during a live interview on Citizen TV, Mr Seed revealed that after completing his studies at BHH High School, he was unable to collect his KCSE certificate due to an outstanding school fee balance. Years later, a chance encounter with his former teacher brought surprising news.
“My teacher told me to just go collect my certificate because Baba had paid the school fees,” Mr Seed recounted.
“I was shocked. Raila Odinga had cleared the balances for students like us from the ghetto. I’m grateful for what he did for me.”
The singer also spoke fondly of his late mother, describing her as one of Raila’s most loyal supporters.
“When Baba called for boycotts, my mum immediately dropped Safaricom and replaced everything he said we should,” he said, laughing. “Her loyalty to him was unmatched.”
Mr Seed joined countless Kenyans in paying tribute to Raila Odinga, whose passing has sparked a nationwide outpouring of emotion.
He described the ODM leader as a man who not only inspired political change but also personally transformed lives.
“This is the biggest wave of emotion Kenya will ever see,” he said. “No one else has touched so many lives the way Baba did.”
