Mudavadi Endorses Deeper Kenya-China Ties at High-Level Talks in China

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi has voiced Kenya’s strong support for deepening diplomatic and economic relations with China, highlighting the recent elevation of the bilateral partnership to an “All-Weather Kenya-China Community with a Shared Future for the New Era.”

Speaking during a high-level meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) ministerial gathering in Changsha, Mudavadi described the enhanced relationship as a symbol of shared values, trust, and mutual aspirations for development.

“This upgraded relationship is a testament to our mutual commitment to cooperation, respect, and the pursuit of win-win outcomes that can serve as a model for other African nations,” Mudavadi said.

The Prime CS lauded China’s consistent support in trade, infrastructure, and financial development, urging the swift conclusion of key financial cooperation agreements by the end of June 2025 to unlock vital socio-economic projects in Kenya.

Reaffirming Kenya’s dedication to the One-China Policy, Mudavadi noted that the position has now been formally integrated into Kenya’s foreign policy through a Sessional Paper passed by Parliament, underscoring its strategic importance.

The ongoing FOCAC meeting in Changsha is reviewing progress on commitments made during the 2024 Beijing Summit, where Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged $50 billion in aid to Africa over three years.

Kenya’s ties with China have recently been bolstered by the signing of 22 Memoranda of Understanding during President William Ruto’s state visit to Beijing, covering sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, transport, and trade.

Mudavadi is also set to participate in the 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo and the China (Chongqing)-Africa Investment and Trade Cooperation Forum, both aimed at further enhancing Sino-African economic collaboration.
