Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has arrived in Changsha City, China, to attend the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of Follow-Up Actions from the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
The high-level session, attended by China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and representatives from all 54 African member states, will review progress made since the 2024 FOCAC Summit of Heads of State and Government and establish key priorities ahead of the next summit. At the previous summit in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping committed over $50 billion in financial assistance to African nations over three years, targeting key development areas.
According to Mudavadi’s Director of Press, Jacob Ng’etich, the Prime Cabinet Secretary will use this opportunity to “deepen and inject vitality into bilateral relationships between China and Kenya that have spanned over six decades.” His visit builds on the momentum of President William Ruto’s State Visit to China in May, which saw the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding, including significant infrastructure projects like the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Kisumu and the dualling of the Nairobi-Malaba Road.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized the importance of the gathering, noting that China and Africa have achieved “extensive common understandings” on shared modernization and partnership goals. “The China-Africa relationship has been at its best in history,” Lin said, outlining Beijing’s commitment to implementing President Xi’s six-point proposition and 10 partnership actions.
In addition to the ministerial meeting, Mudavadi will participate in the Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo and the China (Chongqing)-Africa Investment and Trade Cooperation Forum. These events aim to strengthen trade, investment, and economic collaboration between Kenya and China.
Following his engagements in China, Mudavadi is scheduled to travel to Helsinki, Finland, where he will represent President Ruto as the Guest of Honour at the prestigious Kultaranta Talks in Naantali.
