Mudavadi to Lead UDA Campaigns in Malava By-Election, Pledges Inclusive Development Agenda

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has been tapped to spearhead the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaigns in the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election, signaling a high-stakes push by the ruling party to secure the seat left vacant following the death of MP Malulu Injendi.

Mudavadi, a former ANC party leader and a senior figure in President William Ruto’s administration, addressed over 100 clan chairpersons and elders from the 29 Kabras clans, pledging to lead a people-driven and inclusive campaign focused on unity, service, and continuity.

“Until you elect a new Member of Parliament, I stand as your Patron in Malava,” Mudavadi declared. “Let us build on the legacy of our late brother Malulu Injendi and keep Malava’s development agenda on track.”

He called on the electorate to reject divisive politics and instead choose a dependable leader who aligns with the government’s priorities and can champion Malava’s interests at the national level. “Leadership is not about theatrics or empty promises,” he said. “Malava needs a leader with integrity and vision.”

Mudavadi emphasized the importance of moving beyond clannism, even as he acknowledged the cultural role of clans in the region. “Clans are our heritage, but let’s not weaponize them in politics. Let’s not elect people who will divide our communities or steal resources meant for our development,” he cautioned.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said he would soon convene broader stakeholder meetings involving youth, women, religious groups, scholars, farmers, and business leaders to chart a shared path forward. He urged elders to help guide voters towards leaders who embody discipline, honesty, and commitment to progress.

During the meeting, clan elders led by Chairperson Alphose Masinde and Secretary General Harrison Webbo Tanga presented a memorandum outlining key pending projects. These include road upgrades, water projects, educational infrastructure, and the activation of new administrative units in Kabras East and West.

Mudavadi assured them of immediate follow-up, confirming he had written to Roads CS Davis Chirchir and was engaging Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen to fast-track implementation. “The government is listening, and we are taking action to bring services closer to the people,” he said.

The meeting was part of a week-long series of consultations Mudavadi has held with leaders and officials in the region. UDA National Vice Chair Kelvin Lunani, MPs Fred Ikana (Shinyalu), and Beatrice Adagala (Vihiga) were among those in attendance.

As UDA prepares to field a candidate, Mudavadi’s leadership in the campaign reflects the party’s strategy to blend national influence with grassroots engagement in a constituency long seen as a political bellwether in Western Kenya.
