Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has called on Kenyans living abroad to uphold the laws of their host countries and conduct themselves with integrity, as he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering on its development agenda.
Addressing Kenyans residing in Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, and Kenitra during his official visit to Morocco, Mudavadi reassured the diaspora that the Kenyan government remains stable and focused, despite political noise at home.
“Don’t be bothered by what you see on social media back at home, it is just noise from a few disgruntled people. The government, which has been in power for over two years, is working in earnest to ensure that it delivers on its mandate to the millions of Kenyans,” said Mudavadi.
Highlighting progress under the Kenya Kwanza administration, he pointed to key initiatives such as the Affordable Housing Programme and Universal Health Coverage, which has registered over 21 million citizens under the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), compared to the 9 million under the former NHIF system.
While acknowledging implementation challenges, Mudavadi expressed confidence that well-intentioned reforms would prevail, despite resistance from individuals who previously benefitted from older systems.
In a stern message to the diaspora, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of being model citizens abroad. “Respect their laws and live in harmony with their nationals,” he advised. “Now that you are here in Morocco, do you think you can bring that noise you see in Nairobi? You will have yourself to blame if you import bad manners to your hosting country.”
He also cautioned against actions that could damage Kenya’s international image or fuel xenophobia, stressing that a few ill-mannered individuals should not tarnish the nation’s reputation.
Mudavadi’s visit reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with Kenyans abroad while rallying support for its development agenda at home and in the global arena.
