Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi made a forceful appeal to the residents and leaders of Western Kenya to cease internal debates and join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).Â
Speaking during a joint media interview in Kakamega on 30 January 2026, Mudavadi argued that the region risks being politically sidelined if it does not unite under a single national party.
Mudavadi emphasized that “coalitions are always about what you bring to the table” and that joining UDA would provide Western Kenya with stronger bargaining power in government.
He likened UDA to a large ferry and smaller regional parties to “canoes,” arguing that only a party with a national presence offers a realistic path to the presidency for the region in the future.
Mudavadi specifically urged National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to dissolve his Ford Kenya party and join UDA to consolidate the “Mulembe nation” under one roof.
Addressing a January 2026 High Court ruling that sought to reinstate his former party, the Amani National Congress (ANC), Mudavadi dismissed the judgment as “an exercise in futility” and a “parasite on a slaughtered cow,” maintaining that ANC had already been legally dissolved.
He stated that his current focus is ensuring President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027, after which he (Mudavadi) intends to vie for the presidency in 2032.
He noted that over 857 aspirants from the Western region had already registered to contest on UDA tickets for the 2027 elections, which he cited as evidence of the party’s growing dominance in the area.
