Muhurubay Fishermen Accuse Tanzania Police Of Harassment

The fisherman, who were being led by Mr. Mark Otieno, chairman of the Sumba-Senye beach management unit, claimed that the lake Victoria waters had been difficult for them.

Fishermen from Muhurubay have expressed worry about intimidation by Tanzanian security personnel and asked the government to take action.

The fisherman, who were being led by Mr. Mark Otieno, chairman of the Sumba-Senye beach management unit, claimed that the lake Victoria waters had been difficult for them.

According to Mr. Otieno, a security guard from Tanzania attacked four fishermen working near Sumba Beach yesterday and took 480 kg of fish, 80 liters of petrel, and other valuables.
According to him, the Tanzanian security officers attacked the fisherman while they were going about their daily business at Migingo Island.

The security agents claimed to be fishing in Tanzanian seas, but according to the head of the beach management section, they were actually in Kenyan waters.

According to Mr. Otieno, the fishermen have long suffered at the hands of Tanzanian and Ugandan security personnel, and they now demand immediate action from the Kenyan government. He claimed that due of the harassment, many fisherman are now avoiding the lake.
