Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has swung into action to help Mukami Kimathi, the widow of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi.
Mukami, a celebrated Mau Mau veteran is currently being held in a hospital in Nairobi, has asked Kenyans to contribute to her Ksh1 million medical cost.
The widow’s daughter Miriam bemoaned that all attempts to contact President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua had failed in a statement on Friday, January 13.
DP Gachagua has since directed Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru to address her plight.
“I have tasked Embakasi Central MP Hon. Benjamin Gathiru a.k.a Major Donk to look into her situation urgently.”
He added that on the completion of his Nyanza tour, the DP will visit the ailing Mau Mau veteran.
“On my return to Nairobi later today, I will make time to visit our mother to check on her progress and assess possible interventions to make her life more comfortable.”
On January 5, Mukami was given a medical admission in Nairobi due to signs of pneumonia.
Although she was released from the hospital on January 12, she has been unable to go because of the hospital bill.
