A multi-agency security team in Busia County has intercepted a consignment of illicit ethanol valued at approximately KSh 22.2 million following an intelligence-led operation along the Amase–Amongura Road.

According to authorities, the operation targeted a suspicious trailer believed to be transporting illegal goods. Officers pursued and successfully intercepted the vehicle before conducting a thorough search, which confirmed it was ferrying ethanol without the required documentation.

During the inspection, officers recovered 76 plastic containers, each with a capacity of 250 litres, amounting to an estimated total of 18,500 litres of ethanol.

Three suspects were arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody awaiting arraignment in court.

The trailer used to transport the consignment was escorted to Adungosi Police Station, where it has been detained as investigations continue.

The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to combating illegal trade and protecting the public, noting that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the circulation of unregulated and potentially harmful substances.
