Multimedia University students on Monday blocked Magadi Road in a heated protest over the death of their colleague, Lameck Wambui Mwangi.
Mwangi, a second-year student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology, was found dead on March 9 in what police suspect was a hit-and-run accident.
The protesting students blamed the accident on the recently resurfaced road, citing the lack of road markings and speed bumps, which they believe contributed to unsafe driving conditions.
Transport Disrupted, Police Clash with Protesters
The demonstration brought traffic to a standstill for hours as students barricaded the road and engaged police in running battles. Motorists were left stranded as tensions escalated, forcing officers to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The protests highlighted growing concerns over road safety in the area, with students demanding immediate action from authorities to prevent similar incidents.
As of Monday afternoon, police had restored order, but students vowed to continue pushing for better safety measures along Magadi Road.
Authorities have promised to investigate Mwangi’s death and address the concerns raised by students.
