Mumias East MP Salasya Ordered To Pay Sh500,000 Debt To Businessman

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has been ordered by Kakamega Small Claims Court to pay businessman Robert Lutta a debt of Ksh.500,000 plus interest and court costs.

The businessman had filed a lawsuit against the lawmaker, demanding that he reimburse the loan he lent him on December 13, last 2022, with the expectation that he would repay it in two months.

The businessman produced records from the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Mumias branch to verify that he wired the money to Salasya’s bank account.

Lutta claimed, through his lawyer Edwin Wafula, that the MP refused to repay the debt.

In his defense, Salasya denied borrowing money from the businessman, and instead claimed he is the one who loaned the claimant Ksh.1 million through his political advisor Mr. Bernard Kemba.

However, in her ruling, Magistrate Gladys Kiama dismissed Salasya’s argument due to lack of evidence.

“I also note that there was nothing to support the allegations that the claimant borrowed money from the respondent, there was no evidence to support his claim,” she said.
