Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro has outlined his development for the last 100 days since he was elected into office.
However, with the achievements, the Governor called on all leaders in Kilifi to work as a team for the best prosperity of the region
He was speaking at Juhudi Primary school in Jaribuni ward during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebration.
“As we celebrate this day, I am happy to report that the county has made a lot of progress in forming a working government. We have dispatched medicines worth Sh400 million to over 150 health centres across the county and issued thousands of title deeds to several schemes in the county,” said the Governor.
He said that going with this year’s celebration theme of connecting, innovating, and inspiring, the County Government of Kilifi, in collaboration with partners, is working to connect our people through the provision of free WIFI hot spots at Butwani gardens in Malindi, Uwanja wa Water in Kilifi, Mtwapa Market, Watamu and Mariakani to spur the digital economy.
The county boss promised the people of Jaribuni that they will benefit from royalties from companies mining Iron Ore, Manganese and Ballasts in the Kauma sub-county.
“We know that the people of Jaribuni are going through a lot of challenges brought by the extensive mining activities that are going here. But I want to promise today that the long-suffering is coming to an end. We are working on some policies that will make sure you benefit from these resources instead of suffering,* he said.
He was accompanied by his Deputy Flora Chibule, Acting Kilifi County Commissioner Geoffrey Tanui, Kilifi Woman Rep Gertrude Mbeyu, Assembly Speaker Teddy Mwambire, a host of MCAs and other local leaders
Leaders who spoke during the fete called on leaders to work together for the betterment of the region. They said that the county has a myriad of challenges that will only be tackled if leaders speak in one voice.
Acting Kilifi County Commissioner Geoffrey Tanui warned parents who allow their children to attend night entertainments or commonly known as Disco Matanga.
He said any parent who will neglect his role will face the full force of the law.
“You need to take care of your children, especially during this festive season. Don’t allow your children to attend these night discos since they are a recipe for social ills,” he said.
Assembly speaker Teddy Mwambire asked Members of the national assembly to push for the establishment of a Ward Fund saying that it will enhance development in the wards.
Kilifi Woman Rep Getrude Mbeyu Mwanyanje also called for vigil from parents to their girls saying the girl child is more prone to many challenges than boys.
“Our girls are all time vulnerable than boys so let us be careful as parents. They need to equally get an education,” she said.
Jaribuni MCA Peter Shehe also called for parents to send their girls to school.
