Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has revoked the appointments of five members from the county’s Audit Committee, effective immediately.

The decision, communicated through a Gazette Notice dated July 17, 2024, affects Paul Mbugua Mwaura, Samuel Kuria Allan, Robinson Kiragu Ngethe, Michael Nganga Gatua, Esther Muthoni Gitumbo, and Caroline Wakairu Gathiru.

The revocation was carried out under constitutional and legal provisions, including Article 179 (4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and sections 30 (2) (a) and 31 (d) of the County Governments Act, 2012.

These laws empower the Governor to manage county governance effectively and outline the framework for appointing and removing committee members.

Governor Kang’ata’s action is aimed at reinforcing the integrity and accountability of the county’s financial management systems.

The Gazette Notice did not provide specific reasons for the revocation, sparking speculation about the underlying factors.

In related news, Governor Kang’ata recently addressed claims regarding a former Chief Executive Committee Member allegedly involved in financial misconduct.

Kang’ata clarified that the individual, who reportedly purchased a Ksh257 million (USD2 million) home in the US, was not part of his administration but served in a previous regime.
