Murang’a Man Lynched After Beheading His Mother Over Plate Of Ugali

Angry villagers lynched a man on Saturday afternoon in Gaturo village, Murang’a county, shortly after he killed his mother over a plate of food.

According to family members, the 68-year-old mother, Magdalene Wangechi, had cooked bananas while her 36-year-old son, Patrick Irungu, demanded a plate of ugali.

“During the ensuing argument, the man, who is suspected of being a substance abuse addict, grabbed a machete and beheaded his mother,” a family member, Mr James Njoroge, said.

Mr Gitonga Murungi, Deputy County Commissioner for Murang’a South, said the two were heard arguing loudly in their home before the verbal altercation turned tragic.

“Neighbours apprehended the man in a nearby thicket and subjected him to mob injustice, resulting in his death.”

Mr Murungi stated that by the time the suspect was apprehended by the lynch mob, he had already disposed of the murder weapon.

Murang’a County Funeral Home later received the bodies.
