A wanted murder suspect in Nairobi’s Umoja area was wounded and apprehended following a dramatic chase.
Armed with a gas cylinder and a matchbox, the suspect intended to detonate them during a confrontation with the police. However, he was shot in the leg and taken into custody on Monday evening.
The suspect was being sought for the alleged murder of Kelvin Kairu on August 24, 2021, and had been pursued by Dandora police.
As he attempted to flee towards Donholm, the suspect was arrested. Two police officers sustained injuries during the incident—one with jaw pain and the other with a hand injury.
The wounded suspect was hospitalized under guard, with pending questioning and eventual charges for the murder allegation.
In a separate incident in the Ngong area of Kajiado County, a man was shot and injured during a robbery in Bondeni. The victim, awaiting gate access, encountered two gunmen who demanded his exit from the vehicle.
A confrontation ensued, resulting in a gunshot wound to the victim’s left leg.
The robbers escaped with his belongings, including Sh7,000 and his mobile phone. Police efforts are underway to apprehend the gang and recover the stolen items, with additional personnel deployed for the pursuit.
