Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday joined by his Sports counterpart Hon. Ababu Namwamba flagged off a Cycling team from the Office of the First Lady under the Mama Cycling initiative, cycling from the Maktaba Kuu Building to the Moi International Sports Ground in Kasarani stadium.
According to Murkomen, the Cycling initiative seeks to encourage country-wide adoption of cycling as a mode of transportation geared towards creating Climate Change Action and Awareness to decongest and de-carbonize cities by 2030.
“Installation of Non-motorised Transport infrastructure is a key measure towards the reduction of road carnage in the country. I have directed all road agencies to ensure there is provision for pedestrian, motorcyclist, and cyclist paths in all new road construction designs and repairs across the country,” he said.
The First Lady’s initiative further compliments an ongoing process at the Cabinet level to formulate legal and policies framework that will prioritize E-Mobility modes of transportation within the country.
