As the countdown to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Nations Championship (CHAN) draws near, the Kenyan government is intensifying efforts to ensure that all venues are up to standard.
Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Hon. Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, alongside Permanent Secretary in the Department of Sports Eng. Peter K. Tum, conducted a site inspection of ongoing renovations at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, revealing significant progress towards meeting CAF requirements.
CS Murkomen expressed optimism about the timely completion of upgrades, stating, “Our timelines are tight, but we’re on track to deliver a modern, world-class facility capable of hosting CHAN and AFCON events.”
His remarks underline the government’s commitment to not only improving sports infrastructure but also to enhancing Kenya’s reputation as a leading sports destination in Africa.
The renovations at Kasarani encompass a broad range of enhancements, including vital infrastructure upgrades, revamped player and official facilities, and improved seating arrangements.
These improvements aim to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for both athletes and fans alike.
As Kenya gears up to host CHAN, the emphasis is on creating an environment that reflects the nation’s passion for football and its readiness to showcase this enthusiasm on an international stage.
With just weeks to go before the tournament kicks off, stakeholders are optimistic that the ongoing work will not only delight visitors during CHAN but will also pave the way for future international sporting events in Kenya.
