Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary, has warned politicians against using the tribal card when being investigated for corruption.
Mudavadi said ethnic mobilization will not protect embattled ex-Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, who is under investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
According to the prime secretary, corruption investigations are conducted by independent state institutions rather than by individuals in positions of authority.
”Let nobody run to their tribes when they are been pursued over corruption, let the independent institutions charged with that work, do their job,” Mudavadi said.
Oparanya, who was grilled by the EACC on Wednesday over an alleged loss of Sh1.3 billion during his tenure, claimed that he was being singled out for political reasons.
Mudavadi stated that independent institutions dealing with corruption will carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the law.
”If you did not steal any public funds, you have no reason to lose sleep, but if you stole then you have every reason to lose sleep,” Mudavadi said in Busia on Saturday.
The prime CS said that a lot of money has been lost in state agencies, institutions, national governments, and even counties through corruption.
