The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) has chosen Makueni County as one of 13 for a pilot initiative in the documentation and digitalization of traditional knowledge and cultural expressions.
Through cooperation created in 2020 between NMK and Makueni, NMK will carry out scientific documentation of selected county heritage sites and monuments with the goal of having them designated as World Heritage Sites.
Tsavo East National Park, Tsavo West National Park, and Chyullu Hills National Park are among them.
This will strengthen Makueni’s position as a vital tourism destination of international renown.
On Friday, Naomi Makau, the Ag. Executive Committee Member for Gender and Social Services, and her Lands and Urban Development colleague Julius Kaloi met with NMK officials to cement the relationship and lay the groundwork for the implementation of the agreed-upon components.
NMK was represented by Frederick Manthi, Director of Antiquities, Sites, and Monuments, and Emmanuel Ndiema, Head of the Department of Earth Sciences.
