General Yoweri Museven has been sworn in as President of Uganda for the next five years.
At the end of his term in 2026, he will have served Uganda for a record 40 years.
After Uganda’s independence in 1962, no other President has held the position of President for such a long time. Museveni was one of the world’s longest-serving heads of state.
At least 10 heads of state and many other delegations witnessed the colorful -historical event held at Kololo independence grounds under tight security.
The 10 presidents who are in attendance include Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta; Évariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed (Somalia), Emmerson Mnangagwa (Zimbabwe), Salva Kiir (South Sudan), Hage Gottfried Geingob (Namibia), Alpha Conde (Guinea), Nana Akufo-Ado(Ghana), Felix Tshisekedi(DRC) and Ethiopia’s Sahle-Work Zewde.
Bobi Wine, his main challenger rejected the results of the January presidential election and said he believed victory was stolen from him.
A pop star and lawmaker, Bobi Wine, 39, had asked the court to overturn the results on several grounds, including the widespread use of violence.
