Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has sent a stern warning to rebels and insurgents planning to interfere with the security of Uganda. – By Caleb Mwikya.
Gen Muhoozi, who is President Yoweri Museveni son and the Commander of Land Forces in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), announced the military has recorded a huge success in the recent days in its fight against rebels.
In a tweet on Thursday, he revealed that a leader of a dreaded ‘terrorist’ group identified as Colonel Atochon has surrendered to UPDF.
Atachon was among leaders who led a group of rebels in attacking a UPDF base in Oduk Village in Zombo Town Council that left 5 soldiers dead.
22 attackers of the rebel group called Uganda Homeland Liberation Force (UHLF) were killed and 35 arrested in the attack that took place in March 2020.
A witchdoctor identified as Ovoya, believed to be the ringleader of the group, was arrested a few days after the attack during a joint security operation by UPDF and Uganda Police.
Muhoozi also said the group that shot Katumba Wamala, Uganda’s minister of works and transport and former military general, has been subdued. On June 1, 2021, General Katumba was left badly injured after gunmen sprayed his vehicle with bullets in Kampala leaving his daughter and driver dead.
“Four days ago the so called ‘Colonel Atochon’, Commander of the rebel group that attacked our troops in Zombo in March of last year surrendered to UPDF. A few days before that the ADF terrorist cell that attacked General Katumba was crushed by Uganda Police. Uganda ni hatari!” Gen Muhoozi posted on Twitter.
