Umoja: Pedestrian Knocked Down On Outering Road – VIDEO

According to witnesses, the man was crossing the 10-lane highway when a speeding vehicle struck him.

One person is fighting for his life after being knocked down by a vehicle along Nairobi’s dreaded Outering Road.

According to witnesses, the man was crossing the 10-lane highway when a speeding vehicle struck him.

Pedestrians have been urged to utilize the footbridge facility that is located hardly 10m from where he was hit.

He was rushed to the hospital for specialized treatment.

According to a survey conducted in March by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), one is more likely to die on Nairobi’s Outering Road than on any other city road.

Outering Road was responsible for 44 of the 371 deaths reported last year.

It was closely followed by Waiyaki Way, which claimed 38 lives, and Mombasa Road, which claimed 29 lives.

The 13-kilometre Outer Ring Road was built at a cost of Sh8.5 billion by the Chinese firm Sino Hydro Tianjin Engineering Limited and opened in 2015.

However, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) has been chastised for failing to maintain the busy road.

As a result, the agency has been erecting footbridges along the road, with a goal of constructing 11 footbridges at a cost of Sh880 million.

According to the NTSA, pedestrians were responsible for at least 90% of all fatalities.
