Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has called on Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to quit politics, accusing him of failing to deliver development in Ukambani during his years in public service.
Dr. Mutua made the remarks during a community resource mobilization drive in Kilifi on 29 November 2025, aimed at raising funds for a community bus.
Addressing the crowd, Mutua said Kalonzo had been in government for more than 40 years, from Mwingi to Tseikuru, his home. Yet, he claimed, the former vice-president had not built a road, installed electricity or provided water at his own residence.
“From Mwingi to Tseikuru, Kalonzo has been in government for four decades. Yet, there’s no road, no electricity, no water at his home,” Mutua said. He accused the Wiper leader of running “politics of poverty”, adding that his time in politics was up.
“We are launching a revolution,” Mutua declared. “Kalonzo must leave the space so we can push development politics in Ukambani.”
Mutua, who is part of the Kenya Kwanza coalition opposing Kalonzo in the region, said the region needed ‘new leadership’ to drive progress.
Despite Mutua’s criticisms, Kalonzo’s Wiper party remains dominant in Ukambani, with 14 Members of Parliament, three governors, and more than 60 elected MCAs across the three counties.
The political landscape in Ukambani was recently shaken when Wiper’s Antony Kisoi beat Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Harrison Wambua in the November 27 by-election for Mumbuni North Ward. Kisoi won with 3,849 votes, defeating Wambua, who garnered 2,766.
