Makueni Court Saves Mutula Kilonzo Governorship

Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Governor of Makueni, has been granted a significant reprieve after Makueni High court dismissed an election case filed against him.

On Tuesday, February 28th, the High Court concluded that the accusations against Kilonzo Jnr were not backed by adequate evidence.

Former Governor Kilonzo’s close opponent filed the case, alleging that Kilonzo Junior participated in electoral misconduct during the August 2022 General Election and asked the court to have Kilonzo Junior’s election overturned.

Nevertheless, the High Court dismissed the election petition, stating a lack of evidence to back up the allegations.

The court ruled that the petitioner had failed to show that Governor Kilonzo Jr employed any illegal means to win the election.

“Despite the formation act of omission and commission I rule that the election of Wajir North was conducted in substantial compliance and I find no reason to invalidate the win by Saney,” the court ruled
