Fast-rising star and Kenya Cup Most Valuable Player Terry Tata will lead Kenya’s Under-20 national women’s volleyball team to the African Women’s U20 Championship set for August 3–12 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Tata, 19, is expected to bring her explosive form to the continental stage after guiding KCB to victory in the inaugural Kenya Cup earlier this month. She rose to national prominence in 2023 while still a student at Kwanthanze Secondary School, playing a pivotal role in KCB’s triumph at the Kenya Volleyball Federation National Women’s League.
Head coach Jackline Barasa named the final squad on Wednesday, including Eddah Jepkemei, Milka Akinyi, Mary Nanjala, Daisy Chepkirui, Benta Oluoch, Sharon Akinyi, Patricia Chemutai, Sheila Wabwile, Esabella Nafula, and Sharon Jepkosgei.
“The team has been training at Nyayo National Stadium and is ready to compete,” said Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) second vice president and U20 Team Manager Kenneth Tonui. “The players are in high spirits, and we’re grateful for the support from the Ministry of Sports and NOC-K.”
The team is scheduled to depart this Saturday at 9 a.m. aboard Ethiopian Airlines, with a connecting flight through Lomé, Togo, to Yaoundé. They will return on August 12.
Joining Barasa in the technical bench is assistant coach Luka Kariuki, with Bala Conceptor serving as physiotherapist. KVF Secretary General Ismail Chege will head the delegation.
Kenya will be aiming to improve on past performances and showcase emerging talent on the continental stage.
