President Uhuru Kenyatta and a number of other prominent politicians have led Kenyans in grieving the death of Mwai Kibaki, Kenya’s third president.

In his presidential proclamation with respect to the death of Kibaki, Uhuru eulogized Kibaki as a leader who fought so hard and accomplished so much for the country.

“As we mourn this immeasurable loss, we recall with eternal gratitude President Kibaki’s patriotic journey in service to his country, which can be traced way back to Kenya’s fight for liberation,” Uhuru’s statement read in part.

ODM leader Raila Odinga also led Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party leaders in paying tribute to Kibaki.

“It is a sad morning for the people of Kenya as we have lost the third President. He was one of the freedom fighters of our country. He has served the country for many years with diligence and transparency. I had the pleasure to serve under Mwai Kibaki as one of his ministers in roads and public works and finally as the prime minister,” he said.

On the other hand, the Deputy President William Ruto praised Kibaki as a brilliant economist and a visionary leader who worked tirelessly to boost the country’s economy.

“Almost all of us here worked with him as his ministers. Today, as Kenyans, we have lost a great son of our nation. We are poorer today without him,” Ruto said.

Mudavadi on his part eulogized Kibaki as a great man who struggled to liberate the country.

“He was a politician who then stood very firm and lied the foundation for the economic fruits that Kenya is experiencing today,” Mudavadi said.

“Indeed Kibaki was a politician who Kenyans voted for overwhelming against all odds in 2002 and defined what one would have called deep state interference and overwhelming voted for him,” he said.

Ford Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetang’ula, said that Kibaki was an economist who rose to be the best finance officer in the country to be the president in 2002.

“We remember him as the best-detribalized president who won the presidency in 2002 and his Deputy President was Michael Wamalwa,” he said.

“He always brought United Nations (UN) together so as to bring security in the region,” he said.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said Kibaki was an iconic father figure for this nation and mourned him as a selfless leader.

“As we mourn him, we have to remember moments when he made the country laugh. He used language that no young Kenyan would be allowed to use,” Kalonzo said.

The Chama Cha Uzalendo party leader and Machakos county gubernatorial aspirant Nzioka Waita also eulogized Kibaki as a distinguished Economist, Statesman and Pan-African leader who distinguished himself in his selfless patriotism and commitment to national development.

“In my mind, Kibaki leaves an indelible mark as a steadfast and visionary national leader who provided much-needed support for the formulation of an enabling environment; to guide the growth of the local mobile telephony market. He provided immense support that allowed the adoption and transition of technologies that enable us to enjoy an almost 99% mobile coverage in Kenya today,” Nzioka condoled.

The Former State House Chief of Staff also added that the former President’s wise words of counsel, leadership acumen and commitment to excellence will continue to act as priceless investments to the future success of Kenya.
