Former President Mwai Kibaki’s body should be taken around several towns in Nyeri before the state funeral on Saturday, according to Nyeri County Assembly Speaker John Kaguchia.Â
During a press conference, Kaguchia stated that the residents will be able to “honor their fallen son.
“As a county, we must be allowed to honor our son this can be realized through a stopover in major towns in the county since many people will not be able to travel to the city for his requiem mass at Nyayo stadium ” he stated.
He stated that the assembly will inform the national organizing committee in writing of their wishes to allow residents who will not be able to make it to his final resting place to bid him farewell.
He also stated that the Nyeri county assembly will hold a special session on Thursday to honor the late former president.
“On Thursday it will be a big day for we will hold a special sitting in honour of Kibaki. He is a son of Nyeri county, and we must honour him by all means. Later we will light candles in the evening to recognize his contribution to the welfare of our county ” said Kaguchia.
Furthermore, the speaker stated that the assembly is considering having a condolence book in the house to which all members of the public, including members of the public, will be able to contribute their condolences in writing.
So far, the national committee in charge of organizing the final sendoff has designated various locations for the condolence book, including the CDF offices in Othaya, Kibaki’s Othaya home, and the Central Region commissioner’s office.
