On her first week in office, Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza has appointed new members to the County Revenue Board.
Mwangaza, who was sworn in last week, announced on Tuesday that she had appointed Francis Mungai as General Manager of the board, succeeding Mr. John Ntoiti.
Fridah Kagwiria was also named Director of the Board by the new county boss, replacing Eric Kabuae. Meanwhile, Harrison Gitobu assumes the role of Chief of Staff.
“I have also ordered the Board to release all items that had been confiscated by the former regime to the owners with immediate effect. However, they must prove ownership of the items before they are released,” Governor Mwangaza said in a statement.
She also ordered that no revenue officer take money without receipts and urged business owners to make sure they know the amount paid to the officers and the money that will be captured in the receipt.
“More so, no revenue should be collected after 4 pm except at the roadblock barriers,” she added.
Mwangaza also ordered the installation of suggestion boxes in all county offices to ensure Meru residents report any instances of employee corruption they notice.
“I have extended the period for registration of suppliers for goods, services and works to 30th of September to allow more business owners to apply for government tenders,” noted the governor.
She termed her assumption of office as an end to “the era where few businessmen and women benefited from government tenders is over”, and promised to champion diversity “with special consideration to Women, youth and People Living with Disability.”
