The 11 member senate committee constituted to prosecute the Impeachment of Meru County Governor, Her excellence Kawira Mwangaza, in their wisdom has today vindicated the Governor.
Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale while reading the committee unanimous decision, he said the Meru County Assembly legal counsel failed to substantiate charges against Kawira Mwangaza.
Acording to the senate, Meru County NCAs lacked any corroborative evidence whatsoever sufficient to stand their motion of impeaching Governor Kawira.
The evidence tabled before the senate committee lacked prerequisite legal threshold to stand in any legally constitued tribunal according to the senate.
Meru County assembly impeached Governor on 62 legal grounds which were later norrowed down to six issues including;
The senators prioritized the governor’s husband, Murega Baichu, as hustler ambassador in Meru, the roadside appointment of staff to work in the Okolea Programme, and the roadside award of a tender to a contractor to build a perimeter wall in a market in Nkubu.
Other violations include ordering Meru Referral Hospital to spend money at source, appointing her husband as Meru Youth Patron, a public office with no legal instruments, and whether or not Mr. Baichu was drawing salaries from public coffers.
He is also recorded saying that Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi had brought Sh10 million pending bill for his TV station and demanded payment in exchange for political support.
