Traders in Nairobi’s Gikomba Market are counting their losses after a new fire engulfed the market, destroying property of unknown value.
After the fire was put out, traders struggled to save some of their items in the market on Sunday.
On Saturday morning, a fire broke out, damaging goods of unknown value. The cause has yet to be determined, and police have stated that they are investigating.
Another fire in the same region destroyed property last month, prompting calls for action to stop the trend.
So far, no arrests have been made. The identical market went up in flames three months earlier.
The incident is being investigated, according to Nairobi police chief Augustine Nthumbi.
“We don’t know if it was arson or an accident,” he said, adding that experts are on the scene.
