The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the mysterious death of Bernard Cheruiyot at Keringet Police Station in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County.

IPOA detectives have recorded statements from ten inmates who were in the police cells with Cheruiyot.

Nakuru County Police Commander Samuel Boit noted that, according to the OCS, Cheruiyot injured himself after hitting his head against a wall, a claim the family strongly disputes.

Boit stated that the deceased was found lying unconscious in the cell and was rushed to Keringet Sub-County Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.

Cheruiyot’s family is now demanding justice, insisting that the police must be held accountable for his death.

According to the family, Cheruiyot had been taken to the police station following a fight over Ksh.10 at a local shop in Kimororoch village.
