The killing on the spot of a 24-year-old man on Friday afternoon at Mihang’o area in Utawala by “unknown people” has brought to light the country’s increasing cases of the blatant shooting of persons by “unknown people.”
The incident occurred around 1 pm along Gesora road, according to the area chief, and the deceased, now identified as Kevin Odhiambo, was found lying with multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers from Kayole police station were told by an eyewitness that he saw two motor vehicles stop and shoot at the deceased, who was accompanied by a woman, before fleeing at high speed.
During the incident, the witness stated that he lay down with his hands raised in surrender, holding his mobile phone, but the gunmen approached him, grabbed his phone, smashed it, and fled with the woman who was accompanying the deceased.
The phone was later discovered next to the deceased’s body.
They then took the lady passenger out of the vehicle and bundled her into their getaway car before driving off.
The lady was released by the assailants 17 kilometers away in Fedha Estate, in Nairobi Eastlands. Police officers took the victim’s body to the City mortuary.
Officers from Kayole Police Station responded to the scene and recovered 27 5.56mm spent cartridges, two live bullets, nine 9mm spent cartridges, five bullet heads, and a crashed wristwatch cover, all of which were stored as exhibits at Kayole Police Station.
The mystery surrounding the victim’s cold-blood murder deepened after police revealed that the gunmen also raided his elder brother’s residence in Mwiki and abducted him.
According to the family, the incident happened a few hours after Odhiambo was killed.
Nairobi region police commander James Mugera said they were yet to establish the motive of the attack and the identity of the gunmen.
