Naftali Kinuthia, the suspect in the death of medical student Ivy Wangeci on Friday, confessed to her murder.
Kinuthia says he regrets the incident and was overcome with rage over what he describes as a failed love relationship.
“This is an incident that I will always regret. After thinking about it and reflecting on it, I knew it would not have happened because there were numerous ways to avoid causing the death of an innocent person “Kinuthia informed the court.
“I’ve felt isolated from society since that day because killing a person is unacceptable in society.”
Kinuthia, who revealed that his father died of lung disease while he was in prison, lamented how Ivy’s family might have been affected by their kin’s death.
“I’ve been in prison for the entire time… I was told that my father had lung disease and died while I was in prison “He stated.
“It’s difficult to lose someone, and I feel bad for the victim’s family. We could do whatever needed to be done right now.”
Wangechi was hacked to death in broad daylight outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret on April 9, 2019.
Kinuthia, who was 28 at the time and had previously denied killing her, is said to have arrived from Nairobi armed with an axe and a knife.
He allegedly lured her out of class, hit her on the head with the axe, and slit her throat.
When asked why he killed Wangechi, the suspect told the Eldoret East DCI boss, Ali Kingi, that heartbreak caused by frequent disappointments drove him to brutally end the life of his alleged lover.
He claimed he had invested both money and emotions in the woman, but his love and financial generosity were not reciprocated in the manner he expected.
