A Nairobi-based agent was on Thursday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts for allegedly embezzling over Sh7.9 million from his employer, Mkondo wa Afrika Ltd.
Allan Kirawa Ogola is accused of stealing Sh7,986,742.25 between March 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024, during his tenure as an agent for the company.
The funds, according to the prosecution, had been entrusted to Ogola for remittance to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) as housing levy and Pay As You Earn (PAYE) deductions on behalf of the firm.
“Allan Kirawa Ogola, on diverse dates between March 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024, in Nairobi County, being an agent of M/s Mkondo wa Afrika Ltd, stole a total sum of Sh7,986,742.25 from Mkondo wa Afrika Ltd, which was entrusted to you to remit to Kenya Revenue Authority for housing levies and PAYE,” the charge sheet read.
Ogola denied the charges when they were read before Senior Principal Magistrate Ondieki.
The magistrate granted the accused a bond of Sh1 million with two sureties of similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh200,000. The accused had initially been arrested on June 14, 2025, and was released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 pending arraignment.
The complaint was lodged by Ahmed Sidgi Kaballo on behalf of Mkondo wa Afrika Ltd. The prosecution has listed Kaballo, Daniel Kuria, and Corporal Francis Mwenda as key witnesses, with additional witnesses expected to testify during the trial.
The case is being prosecuted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), while investigative work was carried out by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Gigiri Police Station.
The matter is set for mention on July 24, 2025, with the hearing scheduled to begin on August 18, 2025.
