Nairobi Businessman Loses Ksh 12.9 Million to Armed Robbers in Broad Daylight

A Nairobi-based Forex Bureau businessman is counting his losses after a brazen robbery that took place in broad daylight, resulting in the theft of $100,000 (Ksh.12.9 million) from his possession.

The incident occurred around 12:53 PM as Hirsi Ali Shire traveled from his business premises on Kaunda Street in the Central Business District (CBD) to Westlands.

Shire had just completed an exchange for Kenyan currency and was en route back when the robbery unfolded.

After boarding a motorbike, Shire arrived at the Paramount building in Westlands, where he successfully exchanged the cash.

However, on his return trip to the CBD, the situation took a frightening turn. As they approached Utalii building along Uhuru Highway, a white saloon vehicle blocked their path.

Two armed men emerged from the vehicle, brandishing a firearm and threatening to shoot if Shire and the motorbike rider did not comply.

In a swift move, one of the robbers grabbed Shire’s bag containing the cash and jumped back into the waiting vehicle, which then sped off.

Shire and the motorbike rider attempted to chase after the robbers but were unsuccessful. Following the frightening ordeal, Shire reported the incident to officers at Central Police Station, where they documented the scene and launched an investigation.

Despite his quick reporting, Shire admitted he was unable to capture the registration number of the saloon car, a detail that may hinder efforts to track the thieves.

Police have since intensified investigations to retrieve the stolen cash and apprehend the suspects responsible for this alarming crime.
