Nairobi County Shuts Down Filthy Hotel Selling Rotten Food to Kenyans in CBD

Nairobi Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has closed a popular hotel in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD) due to hygiene violations.

During a routine night clean-up exercise on Monday, January 6, Mosiria was drawn to a foul stench emanating from a hotel in the city.

Upon inspection, the hotel’s unsanitary conditions were evident, prompting him to take immediate action.

Accompanied by public health officials, Mosiria revisited the premises and found the situation had worsened on Tuesday, January 7.

Preliminary investigations showed that hotel staff were using forged medical examination certificates.

“The inspection revealed shocking conditions, including rotten food, an open and unclean kitchen, the absence of functional toilets, and ongoing operations despite these violations. Further investigations uncovered that the hotel staff were operating with forged medical examination certificates, posing significant public health risks,” Mosiria said.

In response, a closure notice was immediately issued, and the establishment’s owner will be arraigned in court for failing to comply with public health regulations.

Mosiria and the public health officials reaffirmed their commitment to upholding sanitation standards in Nairobi, emphasising that “such violations will not be tolerated” and a major crackdown will be done on all unhygienic hotels in the city.
