KeNHA Reveals What Jammed The Expressway

Motorists plying the Nairobi-Mlolongo section of the Expressway have been stuck in traffic stretching back several kilometers.

According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the traffic was caused by a lorry which had crashed into one of the barriers along the expressway.

“Motorist along Mombasa Road are advised of a Traffic Snarl up near Gate way Mall. The Traffic Snarl up was caused by a truck that rammed on the Express Way barricade. The truck has since being cleared.“

Motorists who witnessed the accident say the traffic snarl up resulted in motorists overlapping thereby jamming the expressway exits.

“We got here and everyone started driving on shoulders which now caused the jam,” reported Henry Mulei, a Kitengela resident.

The expressway which carries over 20,000 cars in traffic per day has been embraced by many Kenyans.

KeNHA has asked motorists to drive according to the rules provided in the Traffic Act, while maintaining set speeds on the Expressway.

The road which was opened for use earlier this month has cut travel time from two hours down to just 15 minutes.

The operation, which is in its trial stages, is set to outline the weak points that are plaguing the Expressway.
