Nairobi Expressway: CRBC completes relocation of water pipes

The 27 km expressway running from Mlolongo through JKIA to Westland’s at Rironi, is well on course to beat the December 2022 completion dateline – By Enock Mukoma.

China Road and Bridge Corporation have their sleeves up at km 15+710, working on the relocation of a large drainage pipe to the sides to allowfor excavation works.

CRBC works on a foundation spreading at pier 8,9 and 10 are on course to prepare an elevation starting at km 15 all the way to Westlands.

The Ksh 60 billion project funded through public-private partnership with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

CRBC quelled rumors alleging that a number of developments along the way, such as the iconic Belleview footbridge.

“Fabricated bridges will be constructed to elevate the road above the bridge, so we will only put safety measures to shield pedestrians from dangers during the construction.” CRBC was quoted.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to inspect the project whose groundbreaking was done in October 2019.

The project is expected to be a crucial solution to perrenial traffic snarl ups as commonly witnessed along Mombasa road.

The expressway will also reduce the time taken from Mlolongo to Westlands from 2hrs to approximately 15 minutes. This will significantly save Nairobi from losses incurred in traffic.
