A Nairobi man accused of defrauding a job seeker in a police recruitment scam will appear for a pre-trial conference on 16th December 2025, according to court documents.
The suspect, identified in the charge sheet as Christian Masengei alias Timothy Khatepe Barsa, is facing charges of obtaining money by false pretences.
The prosecution alleges that between 18th August 2023 and 23rd November 2023, the accused fraudulently obtained KSh 2,589,000 from the complainant.
Investigators claim he falsely represented himself as an individual with the influence and ability to secure employment for the victim in the National Police Service.
The complainant is said to have paid the money in several instalments, believing the promise of a job placement.
Upon his lawyer requesting for reasonable cashbail and bond terms, the court granted him a bond of KSh 1 million with sureties of a similar amount.
Alternatively, he may secure his release on cash bail of KSh 500,000, provided he presents a contact person who will remain reachable during the course of the case.
The matter has now been scheduled for a pre-trial session on 16th December 2025, during which the court will verify whether all parties have exchanged evidence and complied with procedural requirements.
The case highlights the growing concern over recruitment scams targeting desperate job seekers, especially within law enforcement agencies where competition for opportunities remains high.
