Several roads in Nairobi, including Jogoo Road and Kipande Road, have been temporarily closed for repairs and upgrades aimed at addressing drainage issues and potholes.Â
The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Johnson Sakaja and supported by the national government, is part of a broader effort to revamp the city’s road network.
Kipande Road was closed to facilitate a drainage upgrade at the Ojijo Road roundabout, where inadequate infrastructure had caused persistent flooding.
Governor Sakaja explained that replacing a 1,200mm drainage pipe with a 600mm pipe at the site had caused backflow, necessitating urgent intervention.
Upgrades have already been completed on several roads, including Kisauni Road in Nairobi West, Kawangware Market Road, and Pam-Baraka Road in Mowlem Ward.
The county has also rehabilitated roads near Ruthimitu Girls High School in Uthiru, as well as access roads in Ziwa and Kahawa Wards.
New drainage systems are under construction on 2nd Parklands Avenue to mitigate flooding caused by heavy rains.
Sakaja emphasized collaboration with national agencies, noting that residents care about solutions, not jurisdiction.
“We’re working tirelessly to fix Nairobi’s roads. More areas will be addressed soon,” he said.
The city has struggled with deteriorating road conditions, prompting coordinated efforts to ensure progress.
