Nairobi will this Sunday, October 5th, host the 5th Jubilee Live Free Race, East Africa’s biggest cycling event.
The race, organized by the Grand Nairobi Bike Race in partnership with Jubilee Insurance, will start at 6:00 am at Nyayo Stadium.
More than 3,500 cyclists from over 20 countries are expected to take part.
To allow the event to run smoothly, roads will be closed from midnight on Saturday, October 4th, until 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 5th.
Police, NTSA, and KURA will give details to the affected routes.
Jubilee Insurance says the race is not just about sport but also about supporting amputees who need prosthetic limbs and promoting the environment through tree planting and kitchen gardens in schools.
This year’s race comes with bigger rewards, with KES 4 million in prize money, up from KES 3 million last year.
The Nyayo Stadium race village will be open to the public, with food stalls, kids’ areas, and relaxation spaces for families and fans.
There will also be live music performances by Charisma, Vijana Baru Baru, and others to keep the celebrations lively.
Organizers say medical teams and security will be in place to make sure the race is safe and enjoyable for everyone.
