Nairobi Set To Get New Speaker

After the swearing-in of all the 124 MCAs (85 elected  and 39 nominated) of the third County Assembly of Nairobi at City Hall, the MCAs will proceed to elect their new speaker.

Kennedy Ng’ondi and Hassan Rabow will compete for the position of Nairobi County Assembly Speaker.

This follows the rejection of seven other candidates, including the immediate former Speaker Benson Mutura, for failing to meet qualification requirements.

Edward Gichana, the Assembly Clerk, has also named three qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Speaker.

Paul Kados Kiguathi, Athman Hashim Kamau, and Samora Mwaura are the three members of the Nairobi County Assembly.

Ng’ondi previously served as MCA for Kware and county Deputy Speaker from 2013 to 2017 under the late Alex Magelo.

During the 2022 general elections, Robow ran unsuccessfully for the Kamukunji Parliamentary seat, losing to Jubilee’s Yussuf Hassan.

Kenya Kwanza MCAs have threatened to boycott the election due to the disqualification of their Mutura for Speaker.

The MCAs questioned why Mutura was disqualified despite having served in the position for three years.
