Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced the closure of City Hall Way for three days to facilitate preparations for the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally opening ceremony.
The affected section, from City Hall Roundabout to Parliament Roundabout, will remain closed from Monday, March 17, at 8 PM to Thursday, March 20, at 3 PM.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes and cooperate with traffic marshals to ease congestion.
The WRC Safari Rally, scheduled from March 20 to March 23, will take place across Nairobi, Nakuru, and Naivasha counties. This year’s competition will feature two new stages—Morendat Farm in Naivasha and Camp Moran—while the traditional Kedong stage has been reduced by half.
Organizers have also introduced a Rally Village to enhance spectator experience, offering autograph zones and access to race cars along the route.
The event will kick off on March 19 with a 5.00km shakedown, followed by the official flag-off by President William Ruto at KICC on March 20 at 11:26 AM. The first races, Super Special Kasarani (4.76km) and Mzabibu 1 (8.15km), will follow shortly after.
On Friday, the action moves to Naivasha, leading up to Sleeping Warrior on Saturday and the final race at Hell’s Gate on Sunday. The event will conclude with an award ceremony at 3:30 PM at the Podium.
Rally fans are urged to stay updated on designated spectator zones for a safe and exciting experience.
