Mitumba Man Jailed For Shoplifting Body Lotions From A Supermarket

Mitumba businessman convicted of shoplifting at NAIVAS Supermarket will serve one month in prison or pay a fine of Ksh 5,000.

Timothy Kimani, a mitumba businessman at gikomba was arraigned in court facing charges of stealing four Nivea lotions valued at Ksh 3,520 from Naivas Supermarket Muindi Mbingu brunch in Nairobi on May 17,2023.

On the material day, Timothy went to the supermarket and located the shelves containing body lotions. He selected four Nivea lotions and hid them in his back trouser pockets.

He was spotted by one of the Naivas employees as he was exiting without making payment. He was however arrested by security guards at the exit door where the stolen lotions were recovered.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina at Milimani,the businessman pleaded guilty to the offense.

He however told the Court he had many thoughts in his mind that made him forget to pay for the items.

“I would say that it wasn’t shoplifting because i have never done this in my life. I had many thoughts in my mind and i just forgot to pay.”

The court fined him to pay Ksh 5,000 in default to serve one month in prison.\
