Man Kills His Brother, Slits His Own Throat Over Alcohol Bill

The two brothers, aged 31 and 29, were drinking in a local bar when they disagreed on the bill, causing a commotion.

Two brothers were left dead in Naivasha after one stabbed the other in the chest before slitting his own throat with a knife during an argument over an alcohol bill.

The Wednesday night incident in Kinungi village, off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, left residents in shock as relatives and friends tried to come to terms with the deaths.

The two brothers, aged 31 and 29, were drinking in a local bar when they disagreed on the bill, causing a commotion.

In a fit of rage, the elder brother, identified as Joseph Kagwima, whipped out a knife and stabbed his younger sibling, Simon Kamau, leaving him bleeding on the bar floor.

When Kagwima arrived at his nearby home, he slit his throat with the same knife and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Naivasha sub-county hospital, where he had been rushed for treatment.

Cecilia Wanjiru, a relative of the two, expressed the family’s shock, noting that the pair, who were land brokers, were friends who always conducted their business together.

Wanjiru went on to say that the cause of the fight is still unknown to the family, calling the deaths a “double tragedy.”

Area MCA Stanley Karanja said the duo’s deaths were devastating to their families because the elder Kagwima had two wives and Kamau had a young family.

The incident was confirmed by Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru, who said an inquest file had been opened and both bodies had been taken to the Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
