Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika has come forward to address growing concerns regarding her extended absence from public duties, revealing that she is currently on maternity leave.
Kihika, 51, has been out of the public eye for nearly three months, prompting speculation about her well-being and leadership of the significant devolved unit.
In a statement released on Friday, Kihika reassured the residents of Nakuru County that she is in good health and plans to resume her official responsibilities in the coming weeks. “Following numerous calls regarding my absence, I want to assure the people of Nakuru that I am well and currently on maternity leave. I will be resuming official duties at the end of my leave in the next few weeks,” she said.
Kihika expressed gratitude for the concern shown by the residents and emphasized the efficiency of her deputy, David Kones, who has been managing the county’s affairs in her absence. “Service delivery in our Great County is proceeding as envisaged under the able guidance of Deputy Governor David Kones. I have no doubts whatsoever in leading them in my absence,” she stated.
The governor’s announcement comes at a time when political leaders, including Deputy President Kindiki and President Ruto, are engaging with communities to promote development projects. Kihika’s reassurance seeks to quell fears among her constituents while highlighting the continuity of leadership within the county administration.
