Nakuru MCAs Reject Senator’s Call to Impeach Governor Kihika

A section of Nakuru County Assembly members has strongly opposed Senator Tabitha Karanja’s request to impeach Governor Susan Kihika.

The senator had called for the governor’s removal due to her prolonged absence from office, but the MCAs dismissed the demand, arguing that county operations were running smoothly despite Kihika being on maternity leave.

Led by Majority Leader William Mutai, the MCAs criticized Senator Karanja for making statements from a distance instead of addressing the assembly directly.

Mutai explained that the senator has a designated seat in the county assembly but has never used it to formally engage with them, as required by law.

He urged her to present her concerns in the assembly rather than making remarks outside official channels.

Keringet Ward MCA also voiced dissatisfaction with the senator’s approach, stating that while she might have valid concerns, addressing them publicly rather than through the assembly was inappropriate.

The MCAs noted that since the 2022 elections, Karanja had not formally requested to address them, as the constitution requires.

Nominated MCA Hassan Duale also criticized Karanja, accusing her of failing to engage with the assembly to strengthen governance.

He argued that as a woman leader, she should support Governor Kihika, who is on a legitimate leave, instead of attacking her.

Duale insisted that county programs were progressing well and that the senator should focus on collaborating with local leaders rather than fueling conflict.

The MCAs emphasized that they were actively involved in public participation programs to prioritize county projects. They urged Karanja to work with the governor instead of pushing for impeachment.

This is not the first time Senator Karanja has called for Governor Kihika’s impeachment, previously accusing her of mismanaging county resources.

However, the MCAs remain firm in their support for the governor.
