Nakuru youths storm streets to protest the Finance Bill 2024

Hundreds of Nakuru residents took to the streets on Thursday to protest against the Finance Bill 2024 and the high cost of living.

The protesters want Members of Parliament (MPs) to reject the Finance Bill in totality instead of amending specific sections when they vote on it later on Thursday.

The protesters arrived at the Railways Grounds in Nakuru town centre as early as 8am, before starting the demonstrations at around 10:40am.

Carrying placards with slogans against the 2024 Finance Bill and chanting anti-government songs, the protesters are currently made their way along Kenyatta Avenue towards Nyayo Gardens.

Despite the heavy police presence along the avenue and at various government offices, including State House Nakuru and Rift Valley Headquarters along Government Road, the peaceful protesters remain undeterred.

Residents are being mobilised to take to the streets through social media platforms such as WhatsApp groups and Facebook that have been set up for the purpose.

The majority of the protesters are youths.
